Society and Culture

The settlers of the 1600-1700’s, the Central Europeans of the 1800-1900’s, the people who gravitated to Northeast Connecticut during the 1950’s and 1960’s; all contributed to the Ashford that we see today. Religion, arts, learning, global events, politics, and local geography all played a part in the way townspeople have identified themselves and their priorities.

Cemeteries

With the arrival of the first travelers came the need for eternal resting places. To fulfil the burial practices of the varied traditions brought by the residents of Ashford, there are several public and private cemeteries dating back to the earliest settlement.
